i-exchange spoke to Dr Kylie Henderson, Founder and Managing Director of The Better Health Generation Australia & UK.

The Better Health Generation provides allied health services across the Aged Care, Employment Services, Disability, Justice, Corporate Health and Technology sectors.

Kylie has always been interested in how people and teams can perform at their best.

From an early age, her parents encouraged team sports and instilled her with an innate sense of fairness. “Through playing sport, I learned the value of working together and being resilient in the face of challenges.”

Cultivating these attributes, Kylie founded one of Australia’s leading allied health organisations, The Better Health Generation (TBHG). She leads an international team of professionals developing innovative and evidence-based programs to improve health outcomes.

With over 20,000 people benefiting from TBHG services last year, Kylie is excited about the potential of digital platforms to reach even more people – particularly in remote and regional areas. “Technology is going to create major changes in the health care sector,” she says.

we are facing a disruptive wave of digital innovation that, as a sector, we need to keep up with.

“Right now we are facing a disruptive wave of digital innovation that, as a sector, we need to keep up with,” she says. “Two years ago TBHG saw the gap in digital health services and created Your Health Plus, a digital platform that enables clients to access our services remotely – when and where they need it,” says Kylie. “It’s a platform which incorporates health services, with other elements for success – such as education or training.”

Kylie’s vision is one where human supports are strengthened by technology. For inspiration, she looks at other sectors to see how technology is evolving.

“Uber is one of the most significant disruptions of the last 10 years,” she explains. “I believe we can use a similar customer-focused platform in the health care sector to improve service delivery” she states. “How great would it be for clients to rate their experience with a health provider? Not only would this provide enhanced customer service, it would also allow us to monitor impact in real time.”

Kylie welcomes such disruptions. Her mission is to ‘disrupt cycles and systems that no longer work,’ and she believes that working with the digital technologies we can use data to guide and inspire new ways of improving health outcomes. “The best piece of advice I have ever received was ‘Show us your results … and prove it!’  With digital technologies we can utilise real time information and feedback to ensure our programs are evidence-based.”

With digital technologies we can utilise real time information and feedback to ensure our programs are evidence-based.

“While the health sector and the Government have invested heavily in acute health care solutions, I’d like to see more resources spent on prevention and early intervention,” says Kylie.

As Founder and Managing Director of TBHG, she has steered the organisation to develop digital solutions such as mental health apps and live digital access to practitioners for clients in remote regions. “Digital technologies enable us to further our vision of providing equal access to quality health services for all Australians, particularly isolated and vulnerable people.”

Kylie is always envisioning ways to help people become ‘the best version of themselves.’

Now, she just needs technology to catch up.
